This year, the Royal Château of Amboise and Clos Lucé have special programming in store for visitors to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Italian genius’ arrival on the banks of the Loire. Leonardo da Vinci settled in Amboise in 1516 at Francis I’s invitation and lived there for the last three years of his life.

“Leonardissimo!” international competition

From 1 May 2016 to 31 December 2019, visitors are invited to create a personal work, their own interpretation of the Royal Château of Amboise’ decoration and the works of Leonardo da Vinci

Works created in situ or at home can be photographed and shared on the  Facebook page , and so take part in the international “Leonardissimo!” competition to select the artist of the month, the season and the year. Top prizes include stays in Amboise, Florence and Rome, three cities constituting major steps in Leonardo da Vinci’s life.

“Leonardo da Vinci at the Royal Court of Amboise” guided visits are also organised every Sunday of the year at 11:30 p.m.

From Clos Lucé to the Louvre, three Leonardo da Vinci masterpieces

Presented at Close Lucé, Leonardo da Vinci’s last home, from 18 June to 31 December 2016, the exhibition focuses on the growth of the legend surrounding Leonardo da Vinci’s genius, with the artist-scientist’s departure from Rome and arrival in Amboise as a starting point. Leonardo brought all his notebooks and sketches with him in his leather saddlebags, testimonies to the extraordinary richness and diversity of his oeuvre, along with three of his masterpieces: “The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne”, “Saint John the Baptist”, and the immortal “Mona Lisa”. All three paintings are now conserved at the Louvre Museum.

The permanent exhibition of inventions conceived by Leonardo da Vinci is well worth (re)discovering in Château du Clos Lucé and its grounds.
