The City of Blois, which is classified as a “City of Art and History”, has decided to renew the heritage interpretation signage installed in 1986 – the last few panels were put up in March 2012. This year also sees a new “fountain” itinerary on the programme.

New signage

Following the Château (2010) and the city centre (2011), the final panels (in French and English) were put in position in early 2012, along the banks of the Loire and in the Saint-Nicolas district.

The new signage system aims first of all to guide the eye and encourage discovery of the city’s heritage, and secondly lead to fuller appreciation of the historic city

The graphic charter ensures that panels are suited to the city’s historical character, integrating into the urban landscape and meeting the requirements of the protected sector.

Special attention has been paid to the needs of the sight-impaired, with use of a font approved by the Tourism and Disability Charter, contrasting colours, and limited numbers of characters to facilitate reading.

Fountains itinerary

The Council of the Wise has collaborated with the “City of Art and History” Department in creation of a leaflet designed to raise inhabitants’ and tourists’ awareness of 8 of the city’s fountains. The new publication is a welcome addition to the existing visits and itineraries on offer from the City of Blois’ “City of Art and History” Department.

Blois’ latest discovery itinerary comprises 2 possible tours:

  • a short tour (1 hour) over a distance of 2km
  • a long tour (2 hours) over a distance of 3.5km

The leaflets are available from the Tourist Office, the Royal Château and at public facilities (libraries and community centres), and is downloadable from the city’s website.
