To mark the “1515-2015 – Francis I, the Renaissance in the Loire Valley” cultural season, Doulce Mémoire, an ensemble specialising in ancient music that has been active in Tours for over 25 years, has just brought out a book/CD providing a real feast of music composed for a king – Francis I, the patron prince who well understood how much music could serve his policy of prestige.
CD 1: “Messe pour le Camp du Drap d'Or” (Mass for the Field of the Cloth of Gold)
This recording recreates the extraordinary musical “match” between the King of France’s and King Henry VIII of England’s Chapels during the Mass held on the Field of the Cloth of Gold.
CD 2: “La Chambre du Roy” (The King’s Chamber Music)
Music for more private occasions, with a subtle and sophisticated repertoire of pieces once heard in the sovereign’s châteaux, Chambord and Fontainebleau among them...
